Our Training Cafe
Our training cafe in the heart of Harrogate is training over 30 young adults with learning disabilities every week in the key skills they require for a future working in their local community. Barista training, chef skills in the kitchen and customer service, not to mention the confidence and resilience building that working in a busy environment with a supportive team can provide. The South American themed training facility opened with a grant from The National Lottery in 2022 and has quickly become a jewel in Harrogate's crown. The project is well supported by local visitors and volunteers and we have seen wonderful results from our specialist training created to develop people with learning disabilities from across the region. The vocational qualifications we offer our members enables them to present their understanding and what they do in creative and flexible ways. This means that our members graduate with NCFE industry recognised qualifications to pursue their goals to work.

Artizan Organics Enterprise
Each week our team of staff and volunteers run 5 Artizan Organics workshops, where our disabled members make beautiful natural products including candles, hand cream, lip balms & soaps. These sessions are held in our dedicated calming workshop space above our shop. All of our stunning Organics products are available in the Artizan Shop, 39 Oxford Street, Harrogate and online. The skills our members learn are vital to their personal development and with increased confidence and teamwork, we love to see them fly off to their next adventure after graduating from the project. The vocational qualifications we offer our members enable them to present their understanding and what they do in creative and flexible ways. This means that our members graduate with NCFE industry recognised qualifications to pursue their goals to work. All profits made from the sales of Artizan Organics products support the project to grow and develop further, for example the purchasing of new equipment such as talking scales and thermometers for members who are blind or visually impaired.

Workplace training
We run workplace training sessions in our shop where trainees learn retail skills such as customer service, stock preparation and management, and handling money. We also offer stockroom sessions where members organise stock, carry out computer-based administrative tasks, and pack online orders. Trainees working in the shop have the opportunity to complete an NCFE qualification in Retail Skills.
We also run work experience programmes with thanks to funding from "The Bettys and Taylors" family fund that see's our members experiencing workplaces across the district, working with other teams and managers and customers too. Experiences include the theatre and knaresborough castle, as well as a range of local retailers and hospitality providers

Creative Workshops
Every day of the week we hold creative workshops for people with disabilities to access arts and crafts activities.
Social inclusion and friendship are vital to our members living with a wide range of disabilities and the creative skills they gain are invaluable.
Our workshops include art, clay, craft, textile, card making, screen printing and mosaics.
All of our sessions include wellbeing elements and of course tea breaks to share successes and challenges, and to support our members holistically. Our incredible team of volunteers helps to support not only artistic progress but also to promote positive mental health.

Crafty Llamas
Every Monday in term time we provide a free after school club for children aged 11-15 to create a full range of arts and crafts in a friendly and supported environment. Having access to friends in a place where being “different” is normal is vital for our young artists.

Llama Lounge
Every fortnight we run a youth club called the Llama Lounge, for young adults with disabilities to access fun activities with other young people, to make friends and have fun. Every other Thursday evening, our cafe space transforms into a youth club for disabled 16-25 year olds. Disco, Nintendo DS games, Lego, jewellery making, games night and more create a safe space for young people to hang out together. Each session costs £5 to attend and includes refreshments Young volunteers help us to run the Llama Lounge which gives them some incredible experience in completing their DofE but it's life changing for our disabled young adults to be engaged in activities with people their own age. These opportunities are so rare and special and make our Llama Lounge unique.

Mosaics for schools
Our school mosaic project has successfully educated thousands of children and teaching staff all over Yorkshire about disabilities and created some stunning mosaics since its launch in 2017. We visit 3 or 4 schools every year with our disabled artists and spread the word about life with disabilities and how to live life as a good able ally for the disabled community, as well as creating some stunning mosaics with the children for their schools. We have created stepping stone paths, obelisks for commemorative gardens, art for playground walls and decorated sensory spaces for SEN departments. We visit every school for approx. 6 weeks to work together on a journey of transformation of not only attitudes but of the mosaic that we create together too. If you would like our team to visit your school, get in touch to book your place today.
